Clearly, it is a fact that young males, on average, have more crashes than young females.....yet it is possible that some young males are far better drivers than some young females. Insurance companies can only work on facts. I would suggest that the time has come for the driving test, in common with most exams, to issue more than simply a pass or fail, but a grade. Insurers could then use this when giving a first insurance quote, to more accurately assess risk. Or an organisation could be started to give post driving test assessments, to assist insurers in giving sensible quotes, rather like older drivers being mambers of the IAM and getting insurance discounts for it.
