1) That's not what Merc claimed to be doing.

2) Ditto

3) No, cars ran exhausts under the rear most diffuser earlier than this: not in front of the rear axle line but, certainly after the rear axle.

4) Your answer to 4 doesn;'t make sensae for SO many reasons. a) originally you said they wouldn';t waste the fuel, now you say they DO or else what IS the "ignited fuel in the exhaust isn't extra". It's well within the engineers powerrs to shut the fuel supply of altogehter during overrun. They are NOT. b) if they have tghe throttle full open AND they are injecting fuel intro the engine it WILL ignite: if they give a spark, it will also RUN. Without the spark, they are doing exactly what I claimed: running an after burner as that fuel WILL ignite on contact with the hot exhasut and propduce the 'hot draft' over thue diffuser. David, be serious: what do YOU think Charlie tried to ban before Spain......? Hot Blown diffuser is EXACTLY what we have both just described..... fuel thrown at the exhaust to cause ADDITIONAL draft. Your original claim was that it was only 'air' but you now confirm/admit they are letting unburned fuel hit the exhaust.....

5) You claimed that they wouldn't waste fuel in any of the ways I suggested. My comments was 'Oh yes they WOULD!'. To gain extra downforce..... you can BET they'd 'waste' fuel

Extra
********

Hold on......

"the FIA has deemed that throttle use will be allowed only for the purpose of increasing torque, not for 'aerodynamic performance'." "

Errrrrr..... that's plain TRIPE...... and obviously so..... Forget the effect on over-run for a moment.... if you have ANY form of exhaust-fed diffuser it is using the 'throttle' to affect the aerodynamics. The moment the driver opens the throttle (to accelerate), the exhaust delivers high speed exhaust gasses over the diffuser. From YOUR reading of tyhat FIA claim, then A*N*Y form of exhaust-fed diffuser is illegal. The reading of that part is about using the throttle to deliver exhaust gases while the torque is NOT being produced...... i.e. ..... during over-run.

I suspect we are only disagreeing over whether that exhaust gasses are DELIBERATEY being fed additional fuel to deliver higher speed exhaust gases or (in your view) just using the over-running engine as an 'airpump' WITHOUT burning additional fuel. If you ARE right..... then I'd better write to Mercs and to Renault (but NOT FIAt) to tell them, 'my' idea is better than THEIRS!

(We all know that I have NOT juist invented something which those guys have NOT considered.......!)
