I was made redundant 3 weeks ago, but I'm lucky (!) to be a pennyless council tenant, so my benefits will continue after the 6 months is up. Although it has no bearing on the current recession, the fact that there is such a shortage of jobs in engineering design (my work) is down to the way politicians have stood by and done nothing to protect this countries manufacturing industries from the unequal fight against cheap imports from countries that made it difficult for us to export to them.
