While watching the GP yesterday I was reminded that 7th gear is a fixed ratio and the teams are not allowed to change it, which started me thinking that the strange rev ranges heard on the incar audio could just be the teams exploiting a loop hole in the regs by putting a higher ratio in 6th than 7th. Given the speed of the change in an F1 box the software could easyly shift momenteraly through 6th to 7th and back to 6th giving the higher ratio. This would produce exactly the sound pattern we hear.
I will ask some questions and report back if I can get some inside info. Any sound techies on here offer some info?
