			| | Yes, very good drive indeed. I was there at Brands Hatch yesterday.
And those DTM cars sure are mighty impressive; kept wondering how far their lap times might be off, say, 1980s F1. Anyone know?
Coupled with relative accessibility around the paddock/pits/drivers and absence of pretensions – apart from some silly-looking grid girls in the most absurd high heels – I would highly recommend this over present-day F1.
On the other hand, 70 mins of even DTM racing was too much to hold my 10-year old’s attention without breaks. Furthermore, the rules and pit stops make the running order rather difficult to follow without a TV screen in your face.
Also, the safety-car periods sometimes seemed a bit contrived to me; too much of an American spice-up-the-show flavour about them. (Witnessed that live at a CART race once: so ridiculous that it was absolutely hilarious – we started to run bets on when the next one was “due”).

 Also on the bill:

Euro F3 was a relative bore; yesterday at least.

Then came Formula Ford. Upon first seeing – and hearing – those relatively scrawny cars my son suggested we go home. All the more so he found the nose-to-tail, actual racing to be a revelation. (Yes, I know, you get that in kart racing, too).

 Conclusion:

We went for DTM; we’ll go back for F Ford.

Also, Brands has to be one of the world’s great tracks both for viewers and to race on (as I recall).

PS: Sinky – doesn’t Di Resta already have a Mercedes drive … in DTM? Where are you suggesting this win should take him?
