The registry is probably at the root of all Windows problems and is usually at fault for any Windows boot problems. What was wrong with simple .ini files I don't know.

USB WiFi devices have always been particularly flaky (especially the early Netgear WG111). If you can, get an onboard device and use a PCI riser "card" (the ones with the ribbon cables). They come in left and right hand versions. Of course, if this PC is intended for any serious work, you'd be better running some cables but...
