Most tenancy agreements these days are an Assured Short Hold 6 or 12 month tenancy agreement. If they are outside the term of their agreement (i.e. after the 6 or 12 months) and pay their rent monthly, they must give a whole calendar months notice. If they are within their tenancy agreement period, they could be liable for the remaining term.
