The consequence of the £10 theft compared to the £1m theft may be more significant. The £1m may be from a business that is covered by insurance where as the £10 may be the only money a hungry mother has to feed her child for the next few days.
Which one has the more dire consequences?
I personally think the crimes of personal theft and especially burglary are not treated harshly enough. How can you equate a person no longer feeling safe in their own home to a punishment of community service. I find that totally wrong.
The same as its wrong that our prisoners live better than our war veterens but thats a whole new arguement.
