I dont test very much, which I think is unusual and not the norm, I just race. I think you have the right idea in a pre season shake down - but testing is not racing and don't treat it as such. To help benefit from testing consider: In testing do not get involved with any other driver on or off track. Do you own thing. Do not compare notes ect. Its not a social 'friends get together' either. Be 100% pre prepared - do not take a shed testing - you'll waste money and time. Have a plan what you want to test and stick to it. Old and new tyres perform differently. Drive within you means - DO NOT trash your kart/car. Mid week testing is usually quieter. Take sandwiches. There's nothing much more to it.
