Lets assume that climate change is wholly attributable to mankind. Obviously, the only way to halt global warming would be to have a worldwide ban on the burning of fossil fuels and other greenhouse gas releasing industries. That simply isn't going to happen. Cutting our emissions per capita by 10%, or 50% or 75%, isn't going to work either since population increases will negate it. Taxing emissions certainly isn't going to help. The only thing that will help is an economically viable (ie cheaper) alternative to fossil fuels.
Fortunately, we're having to develop alternatives anyway, since fossil fuels are a finite resource, so why not simply continue as we are?
