It is all abount balance. Perhaps the front issue is caused by the rear!
I have found in my current chassis (2008) that in the heavy rain the rears have to be at the end of the axles to work. This was the same with my ex-works 2002 (Mk1), however, my 2006 was as narrow as you can get them.
Also, the rear bumber has to be tight and the middle bearing carrier tight.
At the front, in heavy rain 20 degrees is not enough. Go for 22 - more if you open up the slots. And as for width you can get more than 30mm with standard rims and even more by using super offsets.
But tyre pressures will feature. 10 & 12psi are way too low. 20-25 in standing water with teh rears on 150s and fronts on 110s.
