I can tell you from experience, I put more strain on my back (2 fractured vertibrae) by push starting a TKM against lifting a kart, where I can keep my back straight. On top of that I personally would be floored by the falls that I often see when the pusher as impacts like falling probably affect my back more than the actual lifting.
Your right there is an option to use the clutched engine with a remote starter, but as Chris has said this could be a problem starting 2 karts, however it hasn't stopped me starting 2 comers as each end of a grid. But having 2 TAG engines that I can stand back and watch is far far simpler.
