I agree. My daughter had a junior Britain kart, only took part in clubbie events and enjoyed that. But went on to study Motorsport at college, went to Prodrive and the ACU for work experience. She became a BRDC Marshal, works on the race phones at Silverstone, Starter at Rissington. She still does all this and is a full time Mum.
But My son, never wanted to drive a kart. Only wanted to mend them. He started at the age of 14 on work experience and is at the same firm now, He is now 23. He repairs a lot of the F1, A1, Touring cars, etc. He loves it.
So, although Ian and I are still involved as officials in cars and karts. So are the kids.
