We have a retired tube train driver lives nearby. He sold his flat on Chelsea Embankment and moved out here to Norfolk. After buying a very nice place for around £275,000 (now still worth about £400,000) CASH he put the remaining £800,000 in the bank. And that's after settling his £12,000 mortgage used to buy his council flat. What other government ever did that for the working man?? As for British industry in the 70's - just ask anyone who ever owned a British Leyland car - the passenger seats were for the mechanics. One other thing, I don't remember the Iron Lady ever arresting a member of the opposition using anti terrorist laws.
