The reason I picked tyres is because they're common across different kit platforms and are carried by all traders. Stub axles or steering bosses for a Gillard are different to a Tony and you'd expect different dealers to carry them and different margins to be made.
I'm sure you're right and that Paul Deavin or Martin Hines, or whoever the importer is takes the lions share of the margin in the UK.
The reason I got thinking about all of this was having read Martin Hines' autobiography. He didn't mention anything about profits in the karting industry, but he did indicate that profits in the car racing industry were enormous.
