There is a scenario in cadets mainly on test days where there are sometimes 30 karts of very differing speeds and maybe 15 or 20 seconds a lap difference.

It is not uncommon for a group of 6 or 7 cadets to be driving very closely together on a fast part of the track in a perfectly normal and safe manor. The problem arises when the leaders see a slow kart and make the appropriate pass however the 5/6/7th drivers in the train are suddenly confronted with a very slow kart causing them to swerve violently or worst hit the slow kart. The drivers at the back are not expecting to come across anything with that sort of closing speed but when it happens the results could be very nasty. I completely agree with the common view that it is the overtaking drivers responsibility to make a safe pass however under these circumstances it is the organisers responsibility to observe and take appropriate action.

Both times I recall this happening we lobbied both sets of parents (fast & slow) and requested the grid be split on safety grounds and fortunately they listened. We all know that the tracks do their best to give everybody as much time as possible but sometimes the speed difference is so dramatic that there is no way they should be out together.
