Other thing that helped a lot, and I forgot to mention (might be teaching my granny to suck eggs of course!) make sure you can anchor your heels to keep yourself wedged good and tight into the seat, especially when turning in, as you come off the brake and onto the throttle. Nearly all of my many rib bruises and fractures happened at that point in a corner. With sticky tyres you can very easily get bounced forward in the seat without realizing it, especially if the front end has dug in and the steering wheel is trying to pull your arms off at the shoulder. Moving my pedals so I could use the chassis as a heel rest made a big difference for me.
