Simply rules don't allow for electronic gear change in most gearbox classes so there isn't much market for one. Div 1 / Formula E allow them but most are just a simple ignition cut built into the aftermarket ignition for a flat upshift, however it does damage the gearbox I'm lead to believe as not lifting off the throttle keeps them loaded.
The idea is to keep it simple, hence why we don't run carbs with electronic power jet, electronic power valves or why we aren't running fuel injection yet.
Gearbox karting isn't dead, at least on long circuit but what class hasn't suffered from lack of numbers in recent years.. Even car numbers have dwindled on past popular club series over the last few years.
