It could well be that 'what certain engine builders are telling you 'is true. We have been told and accepted that 'the area under the curve' is a better indicator of engine performance than the peak hp. figure.. Mean power and particularly acceleration time would seem to be an accurate numerical representation of 'area under the curve' so that, as long as the figures are not ' massaged' or comparisons made between engines tested using different rev ranges or dyno flywheels of different inertia, then the figures are valid and useful . Short of track testing these figures may be the best available means of comparing engines. But remember Honda cadet is a budget engine class!!!
