If we're talking about the old Alfano with the TNC circular connectors (Bit like silver aerial connectors) then from memory the temperature input is limited to about 300 deg. Centigrade.
The exhaust will run at a higher temperature than that.
You can use a K type thermocouple for cylinder head temperature monitoring but I think that seeing as a thermocouple output relies on a small voltage in the order of millivolts being produced from the heating of two dissimilar wires, it would be difficult to try and accurately attenuate the output of the EGT in an easy way like a simple resistor.
The later Alfano can use an EGT, as can the Mychron.
