OK, stripped the unit down, seals are in perfect condition but I have replaced them anyway, the bore of the m/c does have machining marks (a spiral?) but I cannot feel any ridges/scores/hollows.
In answer to previous questions, the piston does return fully (there is very little throw in the lever anyway) and the pedal is rock hard and the disc is also solid and doesn't move on the axle at all.
Just need to test it all again now.
As for the machining marks, I have sent an email to Kelgate asking them if this is normal - it's a concern for me but as said, pedal is rock hard and even if I hold it down, it doesn't move.
