Steve, have a look at BirelART UK Series (was Easykart). Ideal for your novice driver. You are only allowed to have one kart and one engine. They are registered with ACR and you can only have the engines serviced with them. The engines are basically IAME cadet with different exhaust and electric start. The engines have a large squish clearance so slight differences in the tolerance of the engine parts don't make a huge difference to performance. We bought kart 48 with engine for £1100 two years ago and we've had the engine serviced twice. Basically, national series with club level costs. Sorry to hijack a thread about Hondas!
