125 Europa Class
Round 1 - 04/08/02 - Rissington

The first race of the the new 125 Europa class A took place at Rissington gearbox circuit on the 4 August, running off the back of the 125 Nat/open class with 30 drivers on the grid it looked to be exciting.

Formula A guest driver Mathew Nichol-Jones made his mark in the heats with three wins out of three which gave him pole for the 14 lap final. Current champion Neil Adlington took grid two with three seconds and Oliver hookway grid three. Seat manufacturer Steve Tillet made the other guest appearance and despite never having driven a gearbox kart he was on the pace by the final.

Peter Farman took the lead with a great start from the second row but Jones and Adlington passed him at the hairpin. Jones showed his pace from the heats and gained some space after lap four the gap was three lengths, with Hookway now in third place, lap by lap they circulated with the gap 6 lengths on lap 8. Lap 9 and Jones caught a group of 125 Nationals but with a late out braking manoeuvre into turn 1 contact was made and he went off and out leaving Adlington to avoid the mayhem and cruise to the flag to take the first win for the new class with Hookway second and Farman third. Keeping with the tradition of Europa racing the lap times were within two tenths of a second

Next race Whilton Mill on 25th August.
