Rain Can’t Dampen Super One at PF International.

Intermittent rain threw up several surprises during round two of the BTE Lawline/Renault Super One Karting Championships at PF International Circuit near Grantham on Sunday, ensuring Formula A, Formula JICA and Formula ICA continue to remain unpredictable.

Formula A points leader Mark Litchfield (Rocester, Staffordshire) still displayed the class shown during the opening meeting of the year and JICA runner Craig Copeland (Wimborne) took another points-scoring Final win. But in Formula ICA it was reigning British Junior Champion Riki Christodoulou (Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield) who showed a return to form.

Formula A

Series leader Mark Litchfield dropped his first points of the season after finishing second in a spirited Final Two tussle with eventual race winner David Gregory (Sheffield), but an earlier win in Final One ensured he retains a comfortable lead at the head of the BTE Lawline/Renault MSA British Kart Championship standings with a superb 198 points. Gary Catt (Thruxton, Hampshire) made amends in Final One for a poor outing during the first round at Three Sisters, near Wigan, after taking second position behind team-mate Litchfield. The podium was completed by Jamie Croxford (Wootton Fields, Nortants) while in Final Two it was Alexander Sims (Pinchbeck) who snatched third place.

Formula JICA

After the dominance enjoyed by Craig Copeland in round one, the second meeting of the year carried much expectation of the youngster. While a downpour played into his hands in Final One, the second Final saw a new name take the top step of the podium in the BTE Lawline/Renault MSA British Junior Kart Championship. Lee Bell (High Wycombe, Bucks) became the first driver to break Copeland’s race-winning stranglehold to add to his earlier third place in the first Final. Namesake Matthew Bell (Morpeth) took a brace of second places, and very welcome Championship points, while Adam Batch (Swanland) rounded out the podium in Final Two.

Formula ICA

Jon Lancaster (Pudsey, Leeds) continued his great consistency in the BTE Lawline/Renault ABkC ICA Championship and also recorded his first win of the year during Final Two, ahead of Sutton-Coldfield neighbours Chris Chubb and Riki Christodoulou. The latter took a comfortable maiden win of 2004 in Final One ahead of Lancaster and Simon Andrews (Helensburgh) in third. Last season’s ICA runner-up Danny Cruttenden (Wilmington) bagged some very welcome points with two fourth place finishes in the Finals.
