Litchfield Continues Formula A Dominance At Lydd

Mark Litchfield (Rocester, Staffordshire) continued his dominance of Formula A by winning both points-scoring finals at Lydd International Raceway, Kent, on Sunday to increase his substantial championship lead and make it five victories from six outings this season.

The Formula ICA and Formula JICA classes again produced hard fought finals with Lee Bell’s (Morpeth) Final Two win in JICA one of the true highlights having fought his way through the field from the back of the grid.

Formula A

In the BTE/Lawline Renault MSA British Kart Championship, Mark Litchfield started second on the grid for Final One but immediately took the lead from pole-sitter Jeremy Metcalfe (Fleet, Hampshire) and was never headed. Metcalfe finished second while Jason Parrott (Crowland, Peterborough) took a well-deserved first podium of the year.

Jason Gardner (Feltham) produced the drive of the race, however, rising from 17th on the grid to fifth at the chequered flag. In Final Two, Litchfield bagged yet another victory with second-placed Metcalfe and third-placed Parrott forming an identical podium to Final One.

Formula ICA

Jason Moore (Wotton, Bedfordshire) and reigning BTE Lawline/Renault ABkC ICA Vice-Champion Danny Cruttenden (Wilmington, Kent) took their first wins of the season at Lydd in the Formula ICA class. Moore won Final One, with Cruttenden second after a spirited drive from 11th on the grid, while the pair switched places on the podium in Final Two with the Kent ace getting the better of his Bedfordshire rival.

Sam Hill (Almondsbury, Bristol) took a brace of hard-fought podiums with third place in both of the points-scoring finals. Jon Lancaster (Pudsey, Lancashire), meanwhile, continues to head the Formula ICA Championship standings.

Formula JICA

A three-way scrap between Richard Singleton (Conway), Craig Copeland (Sturminster Marshall, Dorset) and Adam Christodoulou (Woodend, Litchfield) in Final One of the BTE Lawline/Renault MSA British Junior Kart Championship saw Singleton come out on top with Copeland in second position and Christodoulou in third.

In Final Two, Lee Bell drove a stellar race from 12th and last on the grid to take the well-deserved victory having been forced to miss the earlier Final One due to mechanical problems. Christodoulou finished second after an eventful race while Singleton took third place. Despite finishing 10th in Final Two, Craig Copeland leads the Formula JICA standings.
