News From The CIK-FIA (21/12)
2007 CIK-FIA Review
On the occasion of the '2007 Karting Awards' organised in Monaco, the CIK-FIA
published a colour 80-page book in a format similar to its yearbook. This
publication reviews the highlights of the 2007 CIK-FIA Championship season, with
a topic on each of the 2007 Champions and all the detailed classifications of
the 2007 CIK-FIA Championships, Cups and Trophies. A few historical references
and a portfolio of the six finalist photographs of the 1st CIK-FIA International
Karting Photo Contest are also featured.
This brochure can be ordered from the following website (on page 2 of the catalogue): www.eshop.fia.com, at the price of 14 CHF (postage included), and from the Karting magazine on-line shop in the UK.
Antidoping Tests
As a logical follow-up to the antidoping consciousness-raising campaign jointly
conducted in 2006 by the CIK-FIA and the FIA Institute for Safety, twelve
antidoping tests were carried out during the 2007 CIK-FIA Championship season.
These tests took place at Mariembourg (B) within the framework of the World
Championship and of the World Cup for KF2 and at Sarno (I) within the framework
of the World Cup for KZ1 and of the European KF3 Championship.
All the tests proved to be negative.
Exclusion For Nonconformity Of
Fuel
Further to the fuel tests carried out after the last round of the 2007 CIK-FIA
European Superkart Championship at the Sachsenring (D) and because of the
nonconformity of the fuel sample taken at the end of Race 2 from kart No. 33
driven by Benjamin Mahé (F), the Stewards of the meeting have taken the decision
to exclude the Entrant/Driver concerned.
The resulting new classification of Race 2 (from the 6th place) and new final classification of the Championship are on www.cikfia.com.

MSW
Kart Shop would like to take this opportunity to
thank all of it's customers for their much valued support.
2007 has been a fantastic year behind the counter as we forge even better relationships with suppliers and racers alike, kart storage and maintenance packages have been in huge demand and the new influx of "bambino" owners has been a welcome addition to our clientele.
More importantly 2007 has seen huge success "on the tarmac" with the Octane chassis outperforming many of its peers as the results clearly display. MSW kart shop would like to thank every driver and team member that has made this possible with special thanks to the drivers who have not only won UK and Club championships but every driver who has represented us on the podiums and grids around the country.
We would like to wish you all a Very Merry Xmas and hope that 2008 brings you all the silverware you wish for.

New Tillett Chain Guards (17/12)
![]()
Enclosed
chain guards are now mandatory not only in the UK but throughout CIK racing from
January 2008.
The new Tillett Racing Seats chain guard is made from tough Nylon and is suitable, for the new KF and Max engines. The plastic guard is available in black and has a long bracket kit as standard which keeps the guard more rigidly located and helps move the fixings above the exhaust of the Max making access easier.
The new Carbon Kevlar Tillett chain guard is the lightest on the market at 170 gm in a RHD/Rotax version and is 138 gm when cut for the KF classes. Unlike many products that cosmetically use carbon look materials the lightweight Tillett guard uses genuine carbon and is Kevlar brand fibre lined for ballistic protection against a thrown chain. It also has two smooth sides making it easy to clean.
Further details on our range of products can be found at www.tillett.co.uk.

KF1 & KF3 Asia-Pacific Results (17/12)
Macau, which was once Portuguese, has now become Chinese again with a special regime; it is not just the Asian Las Vegas because of its plethora of casinos : it is also a historical Mecca for Motor Sport. Its Formula 3 Grand Prix is a major sporting event which saw the entry of several notorious drivers during their rise to Formula 1. The list of results of the prestigious Formula 3 event includes in particular the names of Ayrton Senna, of the brothers Schumacher and of David Coulthard. The programme of the Grand Prix, held on the 6-km town circuit, also recently integrated the final of the WTCC, the World Touring Car Championship.
As small as it may be (only 28 square km), the Macau territory includes a permanent circuit dedicated to Karting. Situated on the Coloane island, 12 km from the city centre, the Karting track is 1,200 m long and has a CIK-FIA licence since 2004.
Having organised international events in 2005 and 2006, the Automobile Club of Macau-China (AAMC) logically applied for the organisation of a CIK-FIA Championship and was thus granted the Asia-Pacific Championship of the KF1 and KF3 categories, which took place on 13-16 December 2007. In addition to its joining the CIK-FIA Championships, this Asian event was an opportunity of seeing Indian drivers take part in a CIK-FIA competition for the very first time in the history of Karting.
More experienced and armed with their perfect knowledge of the new KF engines, European drivers dominated both Championships. In KF1, the Italian Marco Ardigo added a fourth major title to his credit in 2007 : after having won the European Championship, the World Cup in Japan and the World Championship, he is now Asia-Pacific Champion ! In Macau, Ardigo finished ahead of his new team-mate, the Finn Matias Laine, who was a good second and achieved the fastest lap time in the final for his first competition with the colours of Tony Kart. Victims of mechanical problems in the pre-final when in the lead, Gary Catt and Alessandro Bressan shone in the final by achieving fine recoveries, respectively to 3rd and 4th places. Second in the pre-final, the Dutch driver Jack Te Braak was classified 5th, ahead of Norway's Eidjord, Japan's Sugiyama, Nara and Kobayashi, while the good surprise of the event came from the Filipino Stefano Marcelo who completed the "Top 10".
In Junior (KF3), the Spaniard Gerard Barrabeig showed himself quite unrelenting, successively carrying off practice, the heats, the pre-final and the final. He offered in the process his first CIK-FIA title to the FA Kart chassis dear to Fernando Alonso. The 2007 European Junior Vice- Champion, Tom Grice, and Carlos Sainz Jr (the son of the double World Rally Champion) accompanied Barrabeig on the final podium.

Enjoy The Christmas Brake (13/12)
There
are just a few shopping days left for you to buy the perfect karter's Christmas
present - the Magura 908.1 system. And still with 25% off the normal retail
price, you'd be crackers not to want one!
The 908.1 system is homologated for the KF classes - and at just 2.4kgs, gives
drivers a vital weight-saving advantage, especially those struggling to make the
KF2 limit.
But you don't have to compete in a KF formula or Rotax to enjoy the advantages
of a Magura. Leading TKM 4-stroke driver Sean Babington retained his GP plate
after a perfect day at PFi (2 December). Sean fitted the 908.1 system to his
kart and went on to win both heats, the Pre-Final, the Final and set the fastest
lap on each occasion.
Venhill Engineering's (Magura's UK importer), Trevor
Howell says, "Sean's success tops off a fantastic year for Magura systems. All
season long Magura users have been winning races and recording fastest laps -
even lap records. And the fact that Sean won in the wet, shows that the brake
works beautifully in all conditions."
To save 25% and make sure it arrives in time for Christmas, order your Magura
908.1 today - Venhill will also make a bespoke caliper mount to fit your kart's

Congratulations Sam & Toby! (11/12)
SnakeBite Racing would like to
congratulate two of their younger drivers in achieving an excellent 1st and 2nd
in the Kimbolton Club Championship for the second year running! Sam
Sanders and Toby Sowery have been competitive all year and the final round last
weekend was no different with a fine display from both drivers. Toby had already
clinched the title before even starting the final where he qualified on pole,
and Sam was already guaranteed second position in the championship before going
into the weekend yet still qualified 4th on the grid for the final.
In addition to Toby and Sam, we would like to thank the following drivers for
their support in 2007. Zak Roseman, Katie Doggett, Adam Jenkins, Sam
Massey and Callum McGreggor who race in the Snr TKM class and achieved 3 top 5
finishers at club level, and Will Redman who joined SnakeBite early in 2007 who
finished 2nd in the TKM Inter class at Whilton Mill.
Despite only being formed just 2 years ago, SnakeBite Racing have already been
successful in both Cadet and TKM classes. We operate very much on a team
ethos with all drivers and parents supporting each other.
Following our success during the last couple of years, we are looking to expand
the team and are now in a position to offer awning space for the Stars of
Tomorrow championship in 2008. If you are looking for both ease and
comfort, racing from our successful team awning with help and support, then
SnakeBite Racing should be your choice for next season.

World Motor Sport Council Decisions (11/12)
During its meeting on 7 December 2007 in Monaco, the World Motor Sport Council of the FIA took the following decisions regarding Karting:
Sporting Regulations
The eligibility criteria to enter the future CIK-FIA Karting World Championships
have been extended. They now enable the CIK-FIA Commission to grant five "Wild
Cards" on the basis of candidature dossiers submitted by the ASNs of the Drivers
concerned.
The reserve chassis rule has been revised for 2008 : it will
henceforth be authorised to use the second chassis freely during a meeting, and
the penalty scale has been deleted. Drivers must however ensure that they are
ready with one chassis in a "dry" set up and one in a "wet" set up in the event
of changing weather conditions and to guarantee the best possible respect of the
race schedule.
A second set of "slick" tyres will be allocated to each Driver for
non-Qualifying Practice before each CIK-FIA KF2, KF3, KZ1, KZ2 and ICC-Sudam
Championship, Cup and Trophy event, as it was already applied in 2007 in KF1.
Technical and Homologation
Regulations
As a supplement to the interdiction to carry out Homologation Extensions
concerning the cylinders of KF engines (voted by the World Council in June
2007), an appendix is added to the 2008 Technical Regulations. This appendix
describes the measuring of the volume of transfers on the cylinders of the
engines concerned, as well as the measuring of the length and diameter of the
exhaust duct. The Homologation Form of each KF engine will be completed by an
appendix indicating the volume of each transfer and the data regarding the
exhaust duct. These additional indications will be measured on the engine sealed
at the initial homologation.
Further to the weight inquiries conducted throughout the 2007 season by the CIK-FIA and by ASNs, it has been decided to increase in 2008 the minimum weight scales of the following categories : KF1 (+ 4 kg, i.e. 160 kg), KF2 (+ 2 kg, i.e. 158 kg), KZ2 (+ 5 kg, i.e. 175 kg), ICC-Sudam (+ 5 kg, i.e. 150 kg) and ICC-Sudam Junior (+ 5 kg, i.e. 140 kg).
It has been decided to allow from 2008 a combination of homologated bodywork elements from different makes or models (front fairing, front panel, side pods, rear wheel protection).
For reasons of cost control and of safety, a closed list of carburettors authorised in Superkart will be drawn up and published at a later date for application on 1st January 2009.
2008 CIK-FIA Calendar
The World Council has accepted the
change of date of the 2008 CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific KF1 and KF3 Championship
scheduled for Macau/MO : it will held on 2-5 October 2008 instead of December
2008.
Invitations to Tender
Total has won the tender to be the single fuel supplier for the 2008 and 2009
CIK-FIA European Superkart Championships. Total will supply the type SK35 fuel
of the make Elf.
Dunlop has won the tender to be the single tyre supplier for the 2008 CIK-FIA Championships, Cups and Trophies held on the European continent for the KF2, KF3, KZ1 and KZ2 categories. Dunlop offers free ("slick" and "wet") tyres to each Driver for all the events (except for the non-qualifying practice), as well as bonuses and assets to the top classified Drivers in each event and/or championship. The "slick" tyres supplied by Dunlop are of the "medium" type in KZ1 and of the "hard" type in KF2, KF3 and KZ2.
Va.Mec has won the tender to be the single carburettor supplier for the 2008 KF3 CIK-FIA Championships, Cups and Trophies.

MSA Issues Behaviour Warning (11/12)
The
Motor Sports Association, governing body of UK motor sport, has issued a stern
warning to everyone involved in the sport, that unacceptable behaviour will not
be tolerated at any level or in any situation.
A recent judgement in the Royal Courts of Justice following an incident at
Warden Law kart circuit clearly upheld the rights of landowners reasonably to
ban persons from their premises for reasons of unacceptable behaviour. This
applies equally to both competitors and non-competitors, irrespective of the
status of the activity taking place at the time.
The MSA wholly supports this judgement and wishes to make it clear to the entire
motor sport community that personal misbehaviour both on and off the track will
not be tolerated.
Colin Hilton, Chief Executive of the Motor Sports Association said:
"Three years ago, we introduced regulations to ensure that parents or guardians
of young drivers under 18 years of age had to 'sign on' at each event, to create
a 'contract' between them and the authorities and enabling disciplinary
proceedings to be brought if necessary. The measure has been very successful,
significantly reducing the number of these offences seen at events involving
young drivers.
"There has, however, been a sharp rise in the number of cases of violence or
threatened violence of serious abuse in recent years and we absolutely have to
stamp it out. We fully support landowners and venue operators who ban people for
unacceptable behaviour. MSA officials dealing with unacceptable behaviour both
on and off the track have the full support of the MSA. The sternest possible
line will be taken against competitors who are brought before the National Court
for any reason of unacceptable behaviour."
Dennis Carter, Chairman of the Association of Motor Racing Circuit Owners said:
"The Association applauds and will strenuously support the governing body and
any individual circuit owner in taking appropriate action to stamp out any form
of violent behaviour from within motor sport."

Iztech Declare Seat Amnesty (07/12)
Popular new kart seat manufacturer, Iztech will be offering a Seat Amnesty to karters visiting the London Motorsport Show, at the London Docklands Excel Centre this weekend (8/9 December).
Iztech's Kevin Nuttall says: "If you've got a damaged or scruffy seat that needs some TLC, just bring it along and we'll give it a free assessment. If we can repair it, we'll do the work and send it back to you, for just £25 plus VAT".
Iztech will also be showing off their new range of high-quality RTM (Resin Transfer Moulded), hand-laid up and flat-bottomed seats - alongside their chainguards for the Cadet, TKM and Rotax classes.
Undoubtedly the star of their show will be, what is believed to be, the lightest RTM seat ever produced for karting. At just 850 grams, the IZ3 is half the weight of an average kart seat (which normally weighs around1.6 kilos).
Working with injection-moulded carbon aramid, Iztech have created a seat that is not only ultra-light, but also very strong. Kevin says "In karting weight is everything. If you're looking for those vital extra tenths, this seat could be the answer."
The IZ3 comes with a flat bottom, enabling it to be mounted lower in the chassis. This also lowers the driver's centre of gravity, whilst keeping them in the upright driving position. Kevin again - "This is particularly useful for taller drivers and we feel that may be beneficial in counteracting situations where drivers experience high levels of grip."
When it comes to understanding the science of seats, the Iztech boss is a master. So who better to share the secrets of seat-fitting? To do just that, Kevin will be presenting a Masterclass at 11am on both days of the London Motorsport Show (Saturday 8 / Sunday 9 December).
For more information about Iztech's products go to stand 10 at the London Motorsport Show, London Docklands Excel Centre (8/9 December).

Taylor's 100% Record (04/12)
Mackenzie
Taylor maintained his 100% Winter Series record with a finely taken victory in
the second round at Shenington, Oxfordshire (2 December).
Over 45 drivers entered the KF3-class, with Mackenzie very much the man to beat,
following his recent string of victories since joining RFM. Mackenzie says: "It
was great to win the first round. But in some ways it puts pressure on you. You
have to do it again to prove that the first one wasn't a fluke."
Any suggestion that his previous Winter Series win may have been down to luck
was soon dismissed when he won the first heat, driving from 12th place on the
grid. In the second, he came from 22nd place to finish 3rd - sealing a front-row
start for the final - "Practice had been wet, first heat was particularly wet
and by the time of the second, the track was drying but still very damp. When we
came out for the final it was bone dry on the racing line, but there were tricky
damp bits off line. At the start, John (Norris) forced me wide onto the damp
stuff, so I couldn't get traction and drive around the outside of him. But this
let Rikki Gordon through his inside and into the lead" says Mackenzie.
Taylor passed Norris on the second lap and set about reducing Gordon's lead.
Having caught him, Mackenzie tucked in behind and began to pile on the pressure.
The trick worked, Gordon made a mistake, slithering off line and allowing Taylor
through. From there, the Ashford-based teenager banged in a series of quick laps
to put a cushion between himself and the pursuing pack, to take a comfortable
victory.
Despite being all smiles as he stood on the podium, Mackenzie revealed that he
doesn't think he can go on and seal the Winter Series crown: "It's a bit
frustrating because we'll be away for two of the remaining three rounds. There's
a very slim chance I could take the title if I win the last round. So that'll be
an exciting race to watch!"
Before then though, Mackenzie and the RFM will be competing in this weekend's
Copa Campeones (Champion's Cup). He says: "I can't wait. I've never raced there
before but from what I've heard it's going to be a great event. I've already
raced and beaten some of the guys who're going there so, we'll just have to
see."
Team boss Ricky Flynn says: "It's going to be very tough. All the top boys are
doing it - but bring it on. I think we'll be alright."

Shen-sational Foster-Jones (04/12)
Robert
Foster-Jones took an emphatic KF2 win in the second round of the 2007/8 Winter
Series (2 December) at Shenington, Oxfordshire.
In conditions that most people would prefer to experience from the comfort of
their living rooms, Robert won his first heat. In the second, he came from 22nd
on the grid to 6th - in the wet and on slicks - to further underline his talent.
Having secured a front-row position for the final alongside James Abraham, Rob
passed his rival before putting in a faultless drive, to win the race by the
length of the main straight.
Foster-Jones says: "I'm over the moon. I didn't think it would happen for me. I
thought I'd come here and really have to battle. Thankfully my main rivals had
bad days but when we go to the next round, I'm sure they'll be after me."
But before then, Robert and the RFM team are heading to Vendrell in Spain for
the annual Copa Campeones (Champions Cup) - and this year's race is going to be
tougher than ever.
Rob explains why: "This year's event has attracted a big entry and lots of the
European teams have put their top drivers in - Gary Catt was down to race but
can't now make it, which is a pity. Still, it'll be great to go up against the
likes of Armand Convers, Alban Varrutti and Anthony Abbasse. It'll be a hard
race, but if I've got the speed to get away from them, then I think I'll be
okay. I can't wait."

Formula Ford Sampler Day (26/11)
The
British Formula Ford Championship is to repeat its successful 'sampler day' for
prospective competitors at Silverstone.
The 5 December event, which is being organised by RacingLine, promoter of the Ford-backed series, is aimed as a showcase for the championship for teams and drivers looking to run drivers in the national British Formula Ford Championship in 2008 with the exciting 150bhp Duratec machines.
The 'open circuit' sampler day, which was successfully trialled in 2006, is designed as a showcase for existing and prospective teams, who can invite competitors to meet them and drive their cars, and to learn about next year's championship.
"It
was a hugely popular event last year," says RacingLine director Sam Roach. "It's
an open circuit for all the teams who took part in 2007, as well as for
prospective teams. We want teams to showcase themselves and to invite along
prospective competitors to find out about them and what they can offer, and also
to learn how we plan to build on the phenomenal success which the championship
has enjoyed this season."
Test slots at the 5 December event, which is being organised by RacingLine, promoter of the Ford-backed series, are filling fast, says Sam Roach: "The bigger teams have very few slots left. We've had many enquiries from prospective competitors, some from karting backgrounds, quite a few from overseas. It's very encouraging."
Silverstone
will welcome not only the championship's top teams - including Jamun Racing,
Kevin Mills Racing, Fluid Motorsport, JTR and Getem - but also some new squads
and championship returnee and multiple title winner Comtec Racing, which has
announced plans to contest British Formula Ford with its own chassis.
The championship has exclusive use of the National circuit at Silverstone, and the sampler day will also provide the opportunity for the Fluid Motorsport Formula 3 team to test the British Formula Ford Champion, Callum MacLeod, and runner-up James Nash. Junior karters without car experience will meanwhile be given track tips by experienced drivers in Fiesta ST road cars.
Drivers with kart or ARDS racing licences who are 16 or over and would like to attend are urged to contact RacingLine on 01908 210077 or formulaford@racingline.com. You can also download a registration form here.

London
Motorsport Show
(20/11)
The
Karting section of this year's London Motorsport Show, held at ExCeL on Saturday
8th and Sunday 9th December, has revealed its workshop timetable and promises to
be jam packed with information and speakers that can help you raise your game.
The subjects of the workshops range from how to get started in karting to advice
on getting the most out of your equipment such as chassis and tyres.
The timetable kicks off with a session on Data Logging, explaining how to use
your equipment and benefit your lap times, which is followed by one of last
year's most popular seminars on seat fitting. Having the correct seat fitting is
vital to any karter and can have serious impacts on racing results when done
correctly or incorrectly!
We then take an unbiased view of Cadet Classes before discussing Owner Driver
Karting and how to get started. There will be a forum and updates on the popular
Rotax Max engine before we look at tyres and how to get the most mileage and
more grip on the track, and chassis settings for wet and dry racing.
The 'voice of Brands Hatch' Brian Jones will then give an insight on how to talk
and deal with the media before the final seminar of the day on the move from
karting to cars. The workshops run both days of the show with the presentation
of the Formula Six Championship taking place on Saturday lunchtime.
There will also be a showcase on 'starting up' with a display feature organised
and manned by the ABkC showing all the major classes in karting using exhibitors
karts and engines to create the largest overall feature of the whole show. There
will also be displays from the British Historic Kart Club, which will have Class
1 and Class 4 karts from the early 60s to early 70s.
For those who prefer to get involved rather than sit on the sidelines, the
popular indoor 'arrive and drive' kart track returns as does the opportunity to
'Chase the Ace', where you pitch your lap times against well known names in
motorsport. A ten minute session on the Karting4U.co.uk track which stretches
around 350 metres will cost just £10.
There is also an opportunity for driving teams to take part an Endurance Karting
competition on the afternoon of Friday 7th December. Teams can register in
advance by contacting
james@karting4u.co.uk and
entry costs £200 per team. Registration, practice and qualifying starts at 4pm
with the final race lasting from 6pm to 8pm. All equipment is provided including
MSW 200cc Honda Race Karts.
Other features include a historic race car zone, motorsport celebrity autograph
signings and Q&A's, fantastic displays of both contemporary and classic racing
cars, and trade stands selling everything a driver needs to start the new
season.
The show also hosts the first motorsport competition to take place in Central
London with the launch of the London Masters Rallycross event. An arena based
circuit has been created specifically for the competition which has already
attracted over 100 entrants. It is no wonder that the organisers are billing the
show as 'the UK's most innovative motor sport show'
The London Motorsport Show covers all disciplines of motorsport from Karting
through to Formula One and is a must for any motor racing enthusiast. For

Martin Capenhurst Joins PSC (20/11)
England Internations Team Manager &
organiser of the Kartmania show Martin Capenhurst is to join the PSC Productions
team as an associate Partner in 2008. The series organiser Alan Taddei was more
than enthusiastic about Martin's involvement, saying "Martin is a well respected
and established figure in karting, having been involved not only as a driver,
probably for more years than he will care to remember, a reporter for karting
magazine and the England team manager. Other commitments in 2007 meant he
couldn't be part of the series then, but we've managed to secure his involvement
for 2008 and I am delighted to welcome him on board. He will be a major part of
the organisation, acting in an official capacity as a Race Director for the
series". Martin was equally enthusiastic about his involvement, saying "I view
the series as a positive promotional tool for the whole sport, and the agreement
with Sky Sports to broadcast the 2008 series demonstrates the standing the
championship has developed due in no small way to the efforts put in by Alan and
the rest of his team. I see my job as continuing the work already done to
consolidate the strengths of the championship, consider how we can improve in
certain areas and then how we move forward in the future. The ten 90 minute
programmes will have an important promotional value for the profile of the
sport, and there is no doubt many of the drivers will benefit from that, as has
been the case in the last few seasons".
See
www.kartingtv.tv for more information about the
series and to download a registration form from the forms page. A new discount
structure is in place for 2008, with a facility to pay all fees by credit card

BSKC Champs Try 2-Strokes (16/11)
Three
school students took to testing 2-strokes on Friday as part of their prize for
winning the British Schools Karting Championship earlier this year. The 3
drivers from Bacon's City Technology College in Rotherhithe, South London, were
given a unique opportunity to test a race prepared works Maranello Junior Max
courtesy of the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow. Aaron Adams (16rs), Oliver Clarke
(15yrs) and Serkan Erdum (16yrs), said it was one of the most enjoyable days and
were impressed by the performance of the kart.
Aaron Adams said that he had never driven anything like it: "It's brilliant. It's just out of this world. I can't explain it really, it's just one of those things. It gives you the best adrenaline rush."
The drivers times were just over a second away from full race pace at PFI last Friday and given that the conditions were cold and slippery the race team were very impressed by the talent on display by the three young drivers.
Carolyn Hoy, BRDC Stars director, believes that the championship will become a fantastic feeder series in to 2-stroke racing.
"The British Schools Karting Championship is fantastic because it allows lots of young people to try competitive kart racing without the expense of buying a kart. I am sure the championship will become an important feeder series into the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow series in the years to come."
The British Schools Karting Championship is a nation-wide arrive-and-drive karting championship for school and college students aged 13 to 18. The championship started out in London earlier this year and is now expanding to 9 regions across England, Scotland and Wales. The final is to be held at Buckmore Park in Kent in late February. Already 204 teams from 64 schools have signed up for the championship.

New Broadcaster
For Race Series
(15/11)
PSC Productions have announced that their 2008 UK Championship series is to be produced on behalf of Sky Sports. Series organiser and producer Alan Taddei agreed an arrangement with the major satellite broadcaster this week, saying "The series has been backed by Motors TV for the past two years and we will continue to have European exposure via the channel as they have given us fantastic support, but all things develop over time and the opportunity to be associated with the largest satellite sports broadcaster in the UK is a great opportunity not only for us, but our drivers, not least because in an unprecedented agreement Sky have agreed to broadcast 90 minute programmes featuring all the classes in every broadcast. That is an unusual running time for their schedules, but very welcome as it enables us to give each class a decent amount of exposure". Sky Sports will have sole UK broadcast rights for the 2008 series, which gets under way at Teeside Autodrome in late February, featuring Mini, Junior and Senior Rotax classes, and include a four round Racing for Buttons Rookie Cup class for WTP Cadets, Formula Blue for the first time over six rounds (three meetings) and a four round Dadson Masters class at the final two meetings of the season, along with 8 round championships for WTP and W60 Cadets over four of the five meetings. Alan went on to point out "There are no clashes with any of the dates in the Little Green Man series (WTP), nor Stars or S1 for Cadets or any of the Rotax classes. The Formula Blue dates have been decided so we don't clash with the NKRA or O Plate, and with the reduced costs of competing over a reduced number of meetings for some classes, and the additional TV exposure offered by the Sky Sports platform, it should increase the competition and make for a great year of racing. The Dadson Masters at the last two meetings of the year will demonstrate to viewers that this sport is for everyone, and not just for kids!"
Registration and entry forms are available to download online, with places strictly limited in each class. "This season we will operate the televised reverse grid on Saturdays, with two 15 lap heats, followed by a 12-15 lap televised final on Sundays. The reverse grid effectively means we have to limit the total number of entries in each class, and once a class is full we will not accept any further registrations" said the organiser. For more information, see www.kartingtv.tv and go to the forms page for a registration form. A new discount structure is in place for 2008, with a facility to pay all fees by credit card at no surcharge. PSC Productions will have a trade stand at Kartmania where drivers can get further information about the 2008 championship.

Ginetta Winter Series Champion (15/11)

Kieran
Vernon became the Ginetta Winter Series champion last weekend at Brands Hatch.
It was a great end to the season as Kieran also won the British Super 1 seniors
championship in TKM 4 stroke, and the open championship in same, and was top
Formula 6/Super 1 driver at the Maxxis TKM Festival. Also pleasing was
that in the Motor Sport Vision Autumn Series at Brands Hatch during October and
November he had nine starts in his Ginetta, all from the front row, won 6 races,
second in two others, and just one third place. His second race on Saturday
against BRDC champion and 'Stars of Tomorrow' sponsored driver Nigel Moore, was
considered the best Ginetta race ever, as both were flying and on the pace,
Nigel knowing he had to win to stand any chance of the championship. Kieran was
having none of it, and each time Nigel got past, Kieran out-braked him on the
straight into the 'paddock hill bend' to re-take the lead. It was nose to tail
throughout, very exciting and close but safe racing that brought a standing
ovation for Kieran from the big crowd in the grandstand as he crossed the finish
line and when he took the podium. What made Kieran's victory even more special
is that he has had to race as a privateer in a 'hired car' that needed some work
to get all fully race prepared, against some of the top teams out there who have
years of experience, all again on a family only funded very tight budget. His
prize is a Senior Ginetta car for next season. For further details contact Ken
Vernon on 01798 815904.

World's
Lightest Kart Seat
(13/11)
Weighing
a mere 850 grams, Iztech Kart Seats believe their brand new IZ3 is the lightest
RTM (Resin Transfer Moulded) seat ever produced for karting.
In a sport where weight is everything, Iztech have worked with injection-moulded
carbon aramid to produce the IZ3 - which is not only ultra-light, but also very
strong. Iztech owner Kevin Nuttall says - "If you're looking for those vital
extra tenths, we believe this seat could well be the answer. A typical seat
weighs 1.6 kilos, the IZ3 is half that - just think of the performance advantage
that gives you."
The IZ3 comes with a flat bottom, enabling it to be mounted lower in the
chassis. This will also lower the driver's centre of gravity, whilst keeping
them in the upright driving position. Kevin again - "This is particularly useful
for taller drivers and we feel that may be beneficial in counteracting
situations where drivers experience high levels of grip."
Iztech was founded in January 2006 by Kevin Nuttall.
After months of intensive research and development, Kevin recently established
the Iztech factory, near Newport Pagnell.
Iztech now produce a range of high-quality RTM,
hand-laid up and flat-bottomed seats, as well as a superb chain guard for the
Cadet, TKM and Rotax classes. A KF model is on the way.
And now you can see and experience the IZ3 for yourself - on Stand 42 at this
weekend's KartMania show.
Also at the show Iztech will be offering a Seat Amnesty to karters with damaged
or scruffy seats. Kevin explains: "Some karters get quite attached to their
seats, so to speak. We're offering a repair service to drivers who don't want to
buy a completely new seat. All they need to do is bring their current or old
seat along and we'll give them a free assessment and, if the seat can be
repaired we'll do the work and send it back to you, for just £25 plus VAT".
For more information about the IZ3 and Iztech's other products go to stand 42 at
KartMania, Stoneleigh Park, Coventry this weekend (17/18 November).

KartMania '07 Show (12/09)
It's
here! This weekend on the 17th-18th November the KartMania show will be in full
swing at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire.
Billed as the "Kart show for Karters", the inaugural show is already in pole position with over 60 exhibitors scheduled to attend as well as the innovative "Kartboot" - a car boot sale for Karting equipment, auctions, fashions shows, award presentations and more.
With most of Karting's big names being represented at the show there will be something for everyone. Looking to get involved in the sport or just starting out? The Stars of Tomorrow race truck will be in attendance alongside every MSA class of kart for visitors to sit in and get a feel for. Still planning for next season? Manufacturers and importers will be on hand to talk about their karts and classes. Looking to stock up for 2008? KartMania is the place for you - so many retailers under one roof and of course some show bargains to be had!
Having an end of season clear-out? Then why not turn up with everything loaded into your car or van on the Saturday or Sunday morning and sell all your old kart parts. For people that love a bargain what could be better than a car boot sale dedicated to Karting! You can pay at the door - just £25 for cars and £35 for a van - any items can be sold as long as they're not in current use (i.e. new chassis and spares, but new spares for karts over 3 years old are fine).
Combine all of this with free parking at the excellent Stoneleigh Park venue and the show is not to be missed! If you haven't already booked your tickets then you can purchase them on the door.
Visit www.kartmania.co.uk for all the details, but whatever you do this weekend, make sure you visit KartMania '07!

MSA Kart Development Programme (09/11)
The
Motor Sports Association has announced its commitment to launching a new
participation programme from next year, aimed at giving more young people the
opportunity to try karting, and is now looking for a commercial partner with
which to make it happen.
Building on the recent success of Lewis Hamilton and the associated growth of
interest in karting, the MSA believes that the provision of subsidised
opportunities to get behind the wheel will lead many more youngsters to
experience the sport at an early age.
The governing body has already set aside a budget to support the scheme and is
now inviting submissions from parties interested in putting the initiative
together.
Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive:
"We know that the sport needs to connect with young people early in their lives
before other sports and hobbies take over. Motor sport is exciting but many
people don't know where to go to gain that first taste of the sport, so we need
to make it as easy as possible to have a go.
"We have approved the funding and are now looking for the right person, or
organisation, to make this scheme a reality. We envisage that the successful
tender will utilise the existing infrastructure of clubs and venues where
appropriate and work with the karting community to create as many opportunities
as possible for young people to get behind the wheel."
This initiative is part of the MSA's on-going promotional drive to encourage
more people into motor sport. It follows the announcement that all competitors
under 16 years of age will receive their first MSA competition licence free of
charge from January 2008 and further announcements will be made before the end
of the year, including a major campaign to take motor sport opportunities to the
wider population.

Free Licenses For U16's (09/11)
The
Motor Sports Association has confirmed that, with immediate effect for all 2008
applications, competitors under 16 years of age will receive their first MSA
competition licence free of charge.
The move is designed to capitalise on the recent surge of interest in motor
sport, particularly in karting, and the governing body has removed the fees to
try to encourage youngsters to make the step to MSA-sanctioned competition.
Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive:
"We know that motor sport suffers from certain 'barriers to entry' that exist,
or that are perceived to exist, in our sport. We also know that cost is the
principal consideration for people getting involved in the sport, so while that
first licence fee might only be a small fraction of the participation costs, we
are sending out a message that we actively want people to join us.
"We've got a great chance right now to create a whole new generation of motor
sport competitors, volunteers and enthusiasts. The MSA is absolutely committed
to reaching out to those people who have perhaps been bitten by the motor sport
bug for the first time and we want to make it as easy as possible for those
people to join the sport."
This initiative is the first to be announced by the MSA and will be followed by
additional activity that underlines the governing body's commitment to the
promotion of the sport. Further announcements will be made before the end of the
year, including a major campaign to take motor sport opportunities to the wider
population.
The 2008 licence application form contains clear instructions for young drivers about how to claim their free first-time licence.

Taylor
Heads Brave New Dawn
(08/11)
Mackenzie
Taylor drove into the history books after taking a superbly judged victory in
the opening round of the Winter Series at PFi (4 November).
Competing in the KF3 class - which attracted a large grid and produced some
great racing - Mackenzie's day didn't quite start according to plan. A mistake
at the start of his first heat cost him dear and he could only finish in 17th
place -"It was a schoolboy error" says his team boss, Ricky Flynn: "He wasn't
thinking and we pointed that out quite firmly to him. After that, he didn't make
any more mistakes" he smiles.
Indeed, in the next heat, Mackenzie put in a stellar drive to go from 26th to
4th at the flag. Once the points had been added up, Mackenzie found himself in a
respectable 12th place on the grid for the final.
With the track bathed in pale gold sunlight, it was Taylor who shone from the
start. Taking advantage of the confusion at the first bend, Mackenzie passed 7
karts to move into 5th place. But before the race could settle down, the 'battenburg
flag' signaled that karts were stranded in dangerous positions on and off the
track. The field slowed to a single file procession but ran nose to tail - and
this played into the teenager's hands. At the re-start, it was Mackenzie who was
the most alert and he got the jump on his rivals, stealing into 2nd place.
He then pressured the leader (Rikki
Gordon) into looking over his shoulder, and before long had capitalised on his
psychological advantage - diving past the Irishman into the 2nd hairpin and
snatching the lead. From there it was first place all the way to the chequered
flag.
"Four races, two wins" reflects Ricky Flynn on Mackenzie's fortunes since
joining his team. "He's going alright isn't he? Mackenzie can lead a race quite
well. He looked relaxed and in control. He wasn't looking over his shoulder to
see what the others were doing. He was consistent and didn't make any mistakes.
It was a very good performance."
Mackenzie says: "I feel good. To be able to start the Winter Series with a win
is great and to be the first person to win a KF3 race in England is really
special."
But having taken the early win and the championship lead, does Mackenzie feel
under extra pressure? "No, the pressure's the same. We go to every race to win.
Each weekend, Rick is asking for a little bit more. Even if you slip up in
testing, he'll give you a talking to. But it's not really pressure, just a level
of expectation. Everyone in the team - my mechanic, Rick, me - we all want to
win." He adds: "I'd like to say a big 'thankyou' to Gordy (Finlayson at GFR) and
Franco of TM who congratulated me on my win - my engines have been good all
weekend and they both did a very good job. And thanks also to Ricky and Bryn, my
mechanic."
Mackenzie will contest the second round of the Winter Series at Shenington,
Oxfordshire on 2 December - but says that winning the championship is not a
priority, "We're not in it (the Winter Series) to win it. It'd be nice but it's
not our main priority. We'll miss the 4th round in favour of the Winter Cup."
